What do you call the things in a virus that intrude into a host cell?

i know viruses dont have cells of there own, so what do you call the things they have that intrude into a host cell?

bacteriophages are viruses that infects bacteria.

and DNA is the same in all cells, it's universal.

the people above me are either not answering your question or giving you the wrong answer!

anyway what happens is the virus' glycoproteins (signalling molecules) attach to the receptive sites on a cell surface. then the virus will inject its viral DNA and pretty much hijack the cells organelles to produce its viral protein.

they have specialized DNA that mimics the DNA of a regular cell, they attach onto the cell, insert their DNA and this then copies and multiplies until the cell explodes making a new copy of each virus as it multiplies. These then go on do to the same thing as the first virus.

They are called bacteriophage or phages for short. They use the lytic cycle which makes the cells explode.
