Why does the host country always seem to have more advantage?

i've noticed that everytime a country hosts the olympics or pan america they usually get the most medals....is it because of the cheering audience? is it because the host atletes are more faimiliar?

the crowd cheering versus booing is definetly a plus. also some people compete better in their home country because they feel comfortable, or they don't want to disipoint the home crowd

The adrenaline of playing at home, ESPECIALLY for an event that involves other countries like the Olympics or Pan-Am games intensify it even more.

Who wants to lose a home in front of friends and family?
