What's the benefits to host Olympics, beside the sports?

Beside sports, what are the good things for a country to have one of its cities to host Olympics?

The economic boost due to tourism during and after the games. Also the spotlight generally helps. Most ticket sales and other direct profits go to the IOC (If I remember correctly) but all that money paid to Chinese businesses is a big boost to the economy.

And, of course, the athletic venues can be used later.

I'm not sure how a whole country benefits, but the Olympics are very lucrative for the cities that hold them. Hundreds of thousands of people flock to the city spending all kinds of money. They also allow the cities to basically put themselves on display for the rest of the world which results in lots of tourist money for years after.

I believe that the greatest benefit is to motivate and popularise sports in the country. The hidden message to the population would be to try harder, to train harder, and to achieve good results.

Huge influx of tourism to the region which would likely not only bring more worldwide attention to the area, but also boost the local economy.

good reason to up grade sport venus

and public transport

more accessible city after

and tourism

bejing will see hundreds of millions of dollars from this. both now, and in years to come..

It's all about money..
