Who and how Chooses the host for the olympic games ?

i was just curious to how and who a host for the olympic games gets choosen , and what factors are put into question ?

first bids are invited from countries who are interested by the IOC

The bids are scored and a short list of around 5 candidates is drawn up,

These 5 then continue to say what they will do etc, how much it will cost, draw up venue plans etc. The IOC continue to inspect the candidates during this time.

Finally at the IOC meeting all IOC members vote on who they want to host the Olympics. In each round the candidate with the fewest votes is dropped. This voting continues until one candidate has an outright majority. Barcelona 1992 gained this with 2 rounds of voting left and Los Angeles 1984 there was no vote as LA was the only bid.

IOC members vote and the winner is decided 7 years before the actual games. For example the 2016 games will be decided in October 2009. They vote and it goes through rounds, and if in the first round a city dosen't get enough votes, it's out. It keeps going for 4 rounds and then the winner is decided. So many factors come into choosing a host city, like transportation, which is a big factor, venues, if a recent Olympic games were held on that continent, and so on. The city must also have a extremely detailed plan as well as an illustrative logo to show the members what to expect if they were the host city. Aslo, all of the IOC members visit each city a year or so before the decision is made.

the IOC. to many factors to list, but the main one is the facility to accomodate the events.

Recently it has been which country posts the biggest bribe/payoff.
