How can I host a dinner mystery theater by myself?

I'm hosting a large banquet and the committee really thinks this would be a good idea but we have a limited budget and want to do the show ourselves but are unsure how. If anyone as any suggestions or web resources I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

That's tough. If budget is limited then you have food, alcohol, venue etc. to think about before you start getting into the actual theatrical costs. If you use a community theatre group, they might have their own costumes and they'll work for free (as actors) but it'd be reasonable for them to ask you for some kind of fee/honorarium/ donation to their theatre. Outside of that, unless the work they were doing was written within the group, the rights to their show would have to be secured.

They have kits for this that do all the work for you. They used to come in boxes like board games. Just look it up online. If they are not still made, maybe you can find one on Ebay. They were called "How to Host a Murder Mystery Evening" or something like that. The kits are very simple, not exactly as detailed as the professional productions you see, but it would get the job done. Or you could hire a director with experience in this to get the job done for you.
