It is never incorrect to send a social acquaintance, such as a host, a friendly letter with complementary remarks. Three or four sentences is plenty if you don't know the person well. This sounds very thoughtful of you.
It probably won't get you banned from your social circle, but it is over the top. Not really appropriate, but also nothing wrong in doing it. I'd phone her and tell her the party was great and I enjoyed myself.
I'm sure that the hostess put in a lot of time and work into the wedding shower and I for one think she would appreciate your kind words. Sometimes little things like that mean a lot to others. Good idea.
It's not really necessary, but I don't think it would offend anyone if you did it. I agree that you should just phone the hostess and say you enjoyed the party.
It is a very nice gesture that she will certainly appreciate. Although not necessary, it's not inappropriate and perfectly acceptable.
