How can you find out who the host for your website is?

My friends website has gone down and she needs the host for the site to reset it - problem is, her husband is away and he has the information about who their host is!!

Is there any other way she can find out who her host is??

Yes, she can use:

http://www.whoishostingthis.com

(just type the domain name and press enter)

or (more complicated)

http://whois.domaintools.com/

(check the results for name servers)

There's a chance that her host and domain registrar are the same company - but they don't have to be. If she does a http://www.who.is/ query on the domain she can see who registered it and then "guess" that maybe that same company is the host - but as I say this doesn't have to be the case.

She'll need credentials to authenticate with of course - does she have any old emails with reference to the domain and hosting? What's the URL?

Good luck!
