Inexpensive ways to host a birthday party?

My sister wants to host a 14 year old party, but she doesn't want it at home. So any ideas? I think going to the movies is out of the question since tickets now cost around $8 here...

If it's still warm where you are, go to the beach. Everyone loves the beach. Get a big cake and put it on a picnic table with some bottles of pop and some sandwiches. Get balloons and streamers from the dollar store. You should be able to find a ton of summer clearance right now so favors won't be a problem, maybe just one beach ball and some sand pails.

I'm familiar with Dallas, I lived there for about a month and while they do not have "ocean" beaches, they have huge lakes around there and I'm sure they have public swimming areas with sand.

Would a friend host the party? Or a grandparent? My friend always uses someone else's house, sometimes with a pool! Who has a big screen TV or media room?

A picnic with field games is fun. Wearing prom-type dresses to the mall is hysterical. Go window shopping in style!

Pizza might be the cheapest way to feed people, but cake is enough, depending on the time.

Churches often have a room you can use for free.
