Is it just me?
It's perfectly normal. That is why we have the two words, host and hostess. And don't worry, they don't think you're gay.
It's just you. The newest employees in a restaurant almost always start out as a host/ess unless they are a chef or other specialty position. I've been seated by both men and women. Though I have worked in many restaurants where the waitstaff was almost all female in the evening (peak hours). The reason being is that women get better tips. Most restaurants will pool tips and distribute at the end of the week to all the on duty staff. So it's a more pocket money for the workers if there is a pretty face taking you to your seat and serving your food.
I've worked in a few restaurants, and we had male hostesses. It's just you. We did have more female hostesses, but we did have male! Maybe just the time you went the female sat you, but they did have a male hostess. Good luck at your new job! :)
Expensive ones usually do, I think. Maybe they think you're gay.
anybody can be host and I have been seated by many male hosts !
