What is a vector and a host in biotech?

I need to define: vector, host, and plasmid-why is a plasmid so useful in recombinant DNA?

A vector is a uninfected carrier and transmitter, a host is a place for reproduction and infection.

So for bubonic plague, the flea is the vector, the rat and people are the hosts.

I agree with the guy above me.
