It is a great idea to have a SOO in Melbourne. They get a bigger crowd in Melbourne than sydney. If sydney supporters really wanted to keep the game in sydney they should go along to the match and then the league bosses wouldn't consider moving it from there. The more exposure our game gets in Melbourne the better it will be for the NRL.Rest assured the game will be sellout in Melbourne(same can't be said for the sydney game)
Well the Victorian government did have some discussion about hosting an Origin game and submitting a team for the series. But it was turned down. i think having a game in QLD, NSW then VIC gives each team a home ground advantage then going to a netural ground maybe for the 3rd game. While holding a game in NZ i dont see any reason why not except for flying over and back. Thats the only reason i can see why the NRL mite turn it down.
I don't mind having one in Melbourne but i do think that if they are going to have one there they need to make it fair. EG. when NSW haves it's two home games one should be played in Melbourne and when it's QLD'S turn to have two home games one is played in Melbourne. Therefore each state gets there fair amount of home games.
Why doesn't Melbourne deserve it?
We are talking about the sporting capital of Australia if not the world!
Home of the Melbourne cup, the M.C.G., Australian Open, F1 grand prix.
I find it really strange that so many people are against wanting the game to grow nationwide. With that kind of attitude the AFL is going get bigger while the NRL will eventually start going backwards, but if thats what you want...
It's usually a tourism thing, Wayne. The first time they held a match in Melbourne, there was the usual all in brawl. If I recall, Hopoate and Tallis had each other by the throat. The Mexicans went nuts, because they aren't used to that intensity.
I like what the guy above me said, give a game to NZ.
Great for them, the game and tourism
Since every year QLD and NSW takes turns in hosting two of the three matches i think that in QLD's year the third game should be played in Melbourne where there are generally more QLD supporters and in NSW's year it should be held in New Zealand where there are more NSW supporters.
I'd rather the games be played in NSW and QLD. This is who's playing, not Victoria. The games deserve to be played in front of these supporters, not an event to lure more people to League in Melbourne.
Besides, they'll all go for QLD down there. Not a fair thing when It's Sydney's turn to host it.
didnt melbourne draw in a bigger crowd in their world cup match, compared to Sydney and theirs??? thats what i heard. i heard that 36,000 turned up to melbourne, while 34,000 turned up to sydney..... so bring it to melbourne, at least they'll get a few more numbers.... lawl 36,000 to a world cup match, pathetic really, dont you agree? AFL grandfinal = 100,000+
but it alternates every year.
if QLD was to get 2 games in one year, then NSW gets 2 the next.
it shouldnt go overseas, no way...if you needed a neutral ground, then Melbourne is the best place; and you still get a good crowd there
Each state has two SOO's every second year. Now if a state wants to transfer their game to Melbourne, then that is fine. Queensland have stated that when they have two home games they WILL be played in Queensland for their supporters.
more people would come to a melb match than a sydney one! and sydney is surrounded in rugby
AFL - vic, sa, wa, tas, nt,
NRL - qld, nsw,
ha ha huge joke!
HEll no...its totally bogus....Queensland only get one game next year...you know how hard it will be to get a ticket...realy really hard....so no..and New South Wales got 2 this year so why doesnt bloody Queensland???
P.s. GO the MAROONS.....Cane toads
No.
Playing State of Origin outside of QLD or NSW is like staging the conflict between Israel and Palestine in Switzerland.
Send one over here! lol the league loving New Zealand public loves the State of Origin games, and it would be well attended.
Edit: Moose: Most of my Kiwi friends are actually Qld supporters! lol
1 in either Melbourne or New Zealand.
Why don't Melbourne deserve a SoO game?
They got more people there in 06 than Brisbane did.
No i don't think melbourne should a state of origin game at all.
maybe they should hold the game some where on the border so it's equal both ways
I like the idea of moving one around it's a great way to grow the game. I'm not sure how the home fans would feel though.
yer the 3rd one should be there so there is no home ground advantage
